Garage Door Preventative Maintenance

Here are some tips to help minimize the wear and tear that your garage door might take from daily use:

  • Inspect the entire garage door system.
  • Tighten and inspect all door hardware.
  • Lubricate (non-silicone) all moving parts; i.e. hinges, rollers, springs, pulleys.
  • Check bottom weather seal.
  • Check sides and top outside weather seal.
  • Check the spring tension to make sure the door is properly balanced.
  • Check the cables and springs for any damage or wear.
  • Verify the operation of all safety features.

And yes you can even WASH your garage door!! Use this simple method to keep the outside of your door as clean as the car inside!

Wash your garage door with a mild detergent, such as a dish detergent, and a car brush. To remove tough stains, use an all-purpose cleaner for the home. Thoroughly rinse the surface with a garden hose. Waxing your garage door once a year with liquid car wax will protect its lustre. For best results, never apply wax in direct sunlight.
